SEO is web marketing technique uses to list website or a web page in search results, to increase the amount of visitors to a website by obtaining a high-ranking placement in the search results page of a search engine including Google, Bing, Yahoo and other search engines.

How SEO emerged

Google found that there were many difficulties to crawl, cache and indexing the webpages and provide maximum informative results to their search engine users. So Google decided to share some information guidelines about which webmasters need to perform in their website for easily crawl and identifying. But big group of webmasters misused those.

Google used niche –specific search engine technology firstly. In that there is a initial spamming tendency has come known as “keyword stuffing”. It is a SEO technique used by web designers to overload keywords onto a Web page so that search engines will read the page as being relevant in a Web search. Because search engines scan web pages for the words that are entered into the search criteria by the user, the more times a keyword appears on the web page the more relevancy the search engine will assign to the page in the search results. Web masters compete to increase number of keywords in their pages without bothering their quality of their website. After encountered this problem Google modified their search engine algorithm and they started to use link–specific search engine technology. In that they focus websites with more pointing links. Thirdly they used Quality link specific in which Google provide page rank for websites as considered as trust value.It also repeats the same malpractices as webmasters were trying to get more links to their websites.

In 2009 ,Google gave the high page rank to websites which have more user interactions, responses etc. In 2010, it changed as how much more social media signals getting the websites, that tends to increase the page rank.

Major Google updations are  Google panda,Google penguin. Google Panda is a change to Google's search results ranking algorithm that was first released in February 2011. The change aimed to lower the rank of "low-quality sites", and return higher-quality sites near the top of the search results.It is also known as Pharmer Updation. Sand box is used to temporarily store the doubtful websites.

Google launched the Penguin Update in April 2012 that acts against link spamming. When a new Penguin Update is released, sites that have taken action to remove bad links.
    
Another google updation is The EMD Update for “Exact Match Domain” - is a filter. Google launched in September 2012 to prevent poor quality sites from ranking well simply because they had words that match search terms in their domain names.
